Volunteer with Tree Lafayette!
Our organization has many opportunities for members of the Lafayette community to help out. We have four committees, each with various responsibilities that need people who have the desire, the will and the skills to enrich Lafayette and West Lafayette.
There are four committees; the Development, Financial, Membership and Grants committee, the Education committee, the Tree committee and the Marketing and Publicity committee. Each of these groups handles a wide variety of tasks and assignments.

1. Development, Financial, Membership and Grants
This group is the trunk of Tree Lafayette, providing the materials for the entire organization to build upon.
The Budget committee is responsible for preparing the annual budget and is developing a five year budget plan.
The Grants committee is in charge of seeking out grants and preparing applications in support of Tree Lafayette.
The Membership committee oversees the membership program for the Tree Lafayette and plans membership drives, member benefits, does data tracking and prepares donor and member appreciation events.
The Development committee is in charge of promoting the growth of endowments, corporate giving and planned gift programs. They also develop long-range plans for Tree Lafayette and prepare fundraising plans for capitol and other special projects.

2. Education
These people are the seeds of Tree Lafayette. Spreading knowledge and guidance to the adults and children of our community and planting a better tomorrow. This committee is responsible for the development of education programs and materials for the improving of our urban forest. They develop and run workshops, run training programs in our local schools, for area companies and the public at large. Committee members also find and reward members of the community who work to preserve trees.
• Does presentations to the local 3rd grade classes and plants a tree with the 3rd graders
• Does puppet shows
• Does public speaking engagements
• Does fourth grade Ag Day program at the fair grounds
• Does Imagination station Arbor and Earth day program Does workshops for Arbor Day

3. Tree
These people are our branches, reaching out and caring for the trees in our community. They work closely with the Mayor, the City Forester, the City Engineer and the City Tree Advisory Committee.
• Plan for a tree to be planted. This committee is developing a five year planting agenda.
• Plan to prune trees. They are developing a five year pruning plan.
• Plan to mulch trees. This committee is developing a five year mulching plan.
• Plan to water trees. They monitor the rain and develop plans for watering.
• Plan to spray trees. This committee plans to investigate the law for spaying trees with volunteers. They also will spray for harmful insects.
• Create Site Monitors, Project Managers and Neighborhood Stewardship leaders to take charge of the various endeavors.

4. Marketing and Publicity
This committee and its people are the leaves of Tree Lafayette. They spread the good word about our organization and make sure we’re all aware of the other committees are doing. The Special Events/ Volunteer Recruitment/ Fundraising committee handles the development and implementation of fundraisers and other special events, such as our Arbor Day celebration. They handle media releases; work with volunteer networks as the Boiler Network, the Volunteer Bureau and all individual volunteering persons. They work closely with the Membership committee. The Marketing/ Webmaster and Publications committee work with hand-out material such as door-hangers, t-shirts, truck signs, promotions, etc. They also run the website where they work to keep Tree Lafayette’s on-line world educational, entertaining, informative and historical.
The marketing committee is responsible for branding and maintaining the standards of branding.

Committee Guidelines
Each chairman should have an assistant chairman. The assistant chair will take over leadership from the Chair.
Each committee will develop Strategic areas, Goals, Strategies and Tactics. Each committee should develop a
budget and submit it to the Development Committee for approval in January for each year.

I. Governance Committee

A. Executive Committee

a) The Executive Committee shall consist of the elected officers of the Board, Past President, Executive Director and Ex Officio.
b) The Executive Committee shall act for the Board between Board meetings and subsequently report such activity to the Board.
c) The duties shall principally include both short and long range planning, finance, policies, and By-Law.

B. Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee shall:
a) Present a slate of nominees for membership to the Board, and a slate of nominees for election as officers;
b) Make recommendations to fill Board or officer positions,
c) Provide orientation to new Directors;
d) Plan the annual meeting. It shall be the responsibility of the Nominating Committee to see that nominees to the Board are representative of the community served.



II. Development, Financial, Membership, and Grants Committee

A. Budget Committee
The Budget Committee shall be chaired by the Vice President and include the President and the Treasurer. This committee shall be responsible for preparing the annual budget to be presented by the January meeting for approval of the Board of Directors. The committee will develop a five year budget.

B. Grants Committee
This committee shall be responsible for preparing grant applications in support of Tree Lafayette projects in coordination with the Project’s Committee.

C. Membership.
The Membership Committee oversees the membership program of Tree Lafayette, including planning membership campaigns, member benefits, data tracking, donor appreciation, and member appreciation events.

D. Development Committee.
The Development Committee promotes the growth of endowments, corporate giving and planned gift programs. They work to develop long-range plans for Tree Lafayette. They also develop fundraising plans for capitol and other special projects.



III. Education Committee

A. Education Committee
This committee shall be responsible for the development of education programs and materials for encouraging and improving our urban forest. They will provide workshops, training for schools, professionals, and public.




IV. Tree Committee
The committee will work closely with the City Forester, the City Engineer, the Mayor, and the City Tree Advisory Chairman. The committee will develop policies for planting, pruning, mulching, watering, and spraying.

A. Plan for tree to be planted
a. The committee will develop a five year planting plan.
b. The committee will develop a fertilizer plan after the first year.

B. Plan to prune trees
a. The committee will develop a five year pruning plan

C. Plan to mulch trees

a. The committee will develop a five year mulching plan

D. Plan to water trees

a. The committee will monitor the rain and develop policies and equipment for watering.

E. Plan to spray trees
a. The committee will investigate the law for spaying city trees with volunteers.
b. The committee will spray for harmful insects to the growth of the trees


V. Marketing and Publicity Committee

A. Special Events / Volunteer recruitment/ and Fundraising
The Special Events Committee oversees the development and implementation of special events and other fundraisers. Arbor Day and Tree City USA are two regular scheduled events.
a. The committee will secure volunteers for Arbor Day and other special events
b. The committee will work with Boiler Network, Volunteer Bureau, and all volunteering persons.
c. The committee will work with membership committee
d. The committee will prepare media releases
e. They keep the branding up front and maintain the branding standards.


B. Marketing, Webmaster and Publications,
Develop annual report, newsletters, promotions, door hangers, tee shirts, signs, truck signs, etc.
Keep the web site current, educational, informative, entertaining, and historical
